AEROSPACE MANUFACTURER - In conjunction with a major manufacturer of precision parts to the aerospace industry, an audit has been undertaken of the on-going maintenance costs of their facility. In essence two electricians are working constantly not only re-lamping ageing metal halide fittings (at £28 per lamp), but also replacing control equipment (at £35-£40 per fitting). Annual maintenance costs have been quantified at between £25,000 and £30,000 per annum.

A virtually maintenance-free lighting solution
Whilst not all facilities have the numbers of and age of existing fittings as in the example above, we know from experience that one of the main concerns of most facilities and maintenance managers; indeed of most site operatives, are the maintenance costs and headaches related to the upkeep of conventional lighting systems.
In maintaining light fittings between 6m and 16m the access issues alone create a significant cost and health and safety obligation. It is clear therefore that any guarantee of reduced maintenance is a guarantee of reduced costs.

It is common for a HID lighting design to be specified at the light levels of relatively new lamps. It is therefore very common for facilities to have to re-lamp every 6 to 9 months to maintain that required light level, owing to the degradation of output of their fittings. With costly lamps and the increases in hire costs of scissor lifts or cherry pickers, there can be a substantial maintenance burden.

This is the most common scenario we come across. With the costs and difficulties of access for re-lamping, even if a facility has it’s own cherry picker, it is no surprise that industrial or warehouse light fittings can be badly maintained.
Not only will Eluma deliver a virtually maintenance-free solution for these customers, but in the majority of cases we will increase existing light levels substantially, whilst saving between 60% and 80% of the running cost of the previous scenario.
